 Chinese in Steps - Mandarin tutor in London Hello everyone, 大家好(dà jiā hǎo) My name is Gang Chi and I came from a beautiful coastal city called Dalian in north-east China. As a native Chinese speaker, I am bilingual in both Mandarin and English. After finished my business English study in Ireland in 2000, I went back to China and worked as an English language trainer in a private adult English training institution. I have gained a lot experience in teaching during the two years of working there. In 2006, I came to London to pursue a further education in a UK university and at the same time, I worked in different industries, where I had various opportunities to work with people from different backgrounds. This working experience has evoked me a lot of interests in the teaching of Chinese language and its culture. In order to consolidate my teaching skills and to become a qualified Chinese language teacher, I studied a certificate course in teaching Chinese as a foreign language in School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in 2009. During the study in SOAS, I have gained a lot of professional knowledge in language teaching in the UK and at the same time, I have gained a lot teaching opportunities either inside the school or outside as a part-time Mandarin teacher. My teaching style is relaxed and fun, while focusing on the four essential skills in language competency: listening, speaking, reading and writing, each lesson is infused with a culture element, where you will not only learn about the Chinese language, but also its deep, rich culture. I am also very adaptable to meet any individual learning requirement, from colloquial Chinese to business Chinese, from beginner’s level to advanced, I am here not only as a mere language tutor to you, but also as an attentive listener, an good communicator, an effective motivator and a good friend in support of mutual learning.
