CHIN 1311   Beginning Chinese I (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
This is the first semester of academic transfer Chinese. It is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. This course is cross-listed as CHIN 1411 but is also used in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either CHIN 1311 or CHIN 1411 but may receive credit for only one of the two. (3 Lec., 1 Lab.)

CHIN 1312   Beginning Chinese II (3)
This is a Texas Common Course Number.
Prerequisite: CHIN 1311 or the equivalent or demonstrated competence approved by the instructor.
This is the second semester of academic transfer Chinese. It continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in CHIN 1311. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. This course is cross-listed as CHIN 1412 but is used only in Study Abroad programs. Students may register for either CHIN 1312 or CHIN 1412 but may receive credit for only one of the two.
