The Confucius Institute also engages in outreach to the local community to promote various aspects of Chinese culture. For McMaster University, this partnership creates new and forward-looking opportunities for learning. The Confucius Institute at McMaster University will foster:
• innovative developments in education and research related to China and Chinese culture •community and global partnerships. The Confucius Institute will be administered through the Faculty of Humanities (Department of Linguistics and Languages) with linkages to the Faculty of Business and the Office of International Affairs. Confucius Institutes are funded by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), an NGO that assures the highest quality of academic partnerships. Services provided at McMaster will include: •Chinese language courses (credit and non-credit) • support to other Chinese language teaching providers in the community • training and consultancy on doing business in China •workshops/lectures on subjects such as the Chinese economy, Chinese philosophy, literature, art, music, etc. • preparation for Chinese Proficiency tests • facilitation of research and academic Collaboration.
