Registration Beginning Chinese for Adults ( 1 ) An ideal course for adults without any Chinese language background, you will learn basic Mandarin phonetic system (Pinyin), and wil practice frequently used Chinese expressions and every-day words. Oral and listening skills will be emphasized and basic Chinese grammar and character writing system will also be introduced. Beginning Chinese for Adults ( 2 ) This course is designed for those who have completed beginning Chinese (I), or the equivalent, have learned the Pinyin system, and have grasped a couple hundred spoken Chinese words. This course will help students to improve their Chinese so that they can use the language to communicate information related to their daily life. Advanced Beginning Chinese for Adults Designed for those who have completed Beginning Chinese (II) or the equivalent, have learned the Pinyin system, and have grasped a few hundred spoken and written Chinese words, this course will help you improve spoken language, understand more complex topics related to everyday situations, and will increase character recognition. Extra support and guidance will be offered to those who would like to improve Chinese character reading and writing skills. Beginning Chinese for Children: This course is designed for children without any Chinese language background. A variety of visual, musical, and interactive methods will be used to teach children to speak the Chinese language and to recognize Chinese characters. The course will stimulate their interests in learning Chinese, will cultivate a primary sense of the language, and will lay a foundation for further learning. Pinyin, the Mandarin phonetic system, and a couple hundred of the most frequently used Chinese characters will be taught in this course. Chinese Conversation I & II: The Confucius Institute is cooperating with NC State's Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures (DFLL) to provide additional credits in Chinese language courses for NCSU students. The Confucius Institute instructor cooperates with the faculty of DFLL to teach extra sessions for the first and second year Chinese language students. With this new opportunity, we can integrate more listening and speaking into the Chinese language courses, and emphasize more on language practice while introducing more of the cultural background of the language.
