The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institute with a mission of promoting and teaching Chinese language and culture in Lincoln and the state of Nebraska. The UNL Confucius Institute was established and dedicated in 2007 as the 20th Confucius Institute in the United States. More than 100 Confucius Institutes have been established world-wide by the Office of Chinese Language Council International, known as Hanban, a part of the Chinese Ministry of Education. Hanban aims to promote friendly relationships with other countries; enhance understanding of Chinese language and culture among world Chinese learners; and provide a good environment for learning.

CICL 101 Beginning Chinese I

Prerequisite: None
CICL 101 teaches students very basic Chinese language skills that are closely related to their everyday life such as: greeting others or responding to greetings from others; making simple expressions of their basic needs; giving others instructions by using a few words; and making simple requests or seeking for help.
CICL 201 Intermediate Chinese I (FCC Class)

Prerequisite: CICL 101 or equivalent
CICI 102 is a sequential class to CICL 101. This course will teach more spoken Chinese and start to introduce Chinese culture to the class. It will help students to lay down a stronger foundation of listening, speaking, reading and basic writing skills in Chinese.  After finishing this course, students will be able to make simple conversations on one’s hobbies and daily-life routines, express their needs or give others instructions by using simple sentences, and able to speak Chinese more fluently.
