 Confucius Institute - University of Utah
Establishing a Confucius Institute is an important part of internationalization efforts at the University of Utah. This is made possible by generous financial support from China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (Hanban) and John Huntsman, Sr., as well as strong support from Governor John Huntsman, Jr. Our partner in China is Sichuan University. The programs and activities of the new institute will greatly expand knowledge and understanding of China and its multi-faceted importance for our state. They will include China-related cultural activities such as films, opera and music performances, and art exhibits, as well as public lectures on Chinese society, culture, and history. All of these will be open to the campus and wider community. The institute will offer Chinese language courses with varied and flexible scheduling at a variety of levels and degrees of intensity, including evening, weekend, and summer intensive courses, for people in the wider community who wish to learn Chinese. The institute will promote the study of Chinese language and culture in schools at the K-12 level, offering teacher workshops and developing educational resources. Finally, the institute will offer seminars for the business community on topics of relevance to business ventures in China. As University of Utah President Michael K.
