The main task of CIHK is to promote Chinese language and culture. Two areas emphasized in the activities of CIHK are Chinese language teaching research and culture promotion. Our Stage Achievements are:

Within the “World Hanyu” framework proposed by Prof. Chan Shui-duen, the design of the “Teaching, Learning and Evaluating System in Language Total Information Modeling” has recently been completed and we are exploring possibilities of collaborating with some technology research institutions to establish a “World Hanyu Website”.

With the support of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the assistance of producer Mr. Liu Yaowen, the prize-winning “Chinese Characters Palace”, a multi-million-dollar project, is being re-edited into video teaching materials to support our design of two learning programmes, namely “Chinese by Cell Phone” and “Chinese on Air”. They will be used in outdoor mobile media and the dissemination of edutainment for travelers.

Mr. Choi Kam-chung, Education Technology Manager of CIHK, has constructed the “Creative Chinese World” framework based on eight years of research. The framework aims at tackling technical problems encountered by foreigners in self-learning Chinese using technology. The design of “Chinese through Animation” is recently completed. We will collaborate with the “National Information Technology Innovation and Practice for Middle and Primary Students Education Foundation” in establishing a resource sharing website.

In collaboration with the Asian Promotion, Education and Research Base of International Esperanto, we are in the process of designing a series of “Esperanto-Chinese-English” translation courses as a means of exploring new ways for promoting Chinese learning from multicultural angles. A pilot course on “Pinyin Self-learning Methods” will be introduced soon.

The design of the project “World Languages Graphic-analysis Interpretation Solution” as proposed by Education Technology Manager of CIHK Mr. Choi Kam-chung and supported by semiology expert Prof. Lin Xunzhun, is close to completion. The solution will greatly facilitate self-learning of Chinese when integrated with the existing Pinyin system. Patent application is now underway, and will soon be followed by the production of relevant teaching materials.

The projects “300 Modern Poems”, “Confucian Analects in Songs” and “Sing of Hong Kong” are jointly launched by staff members of CIHK, after solving the problems relating to legal liability and copyright benefits. We are now in the process of recruiting volunteers from the Hong Kong educational sector to undertake the philanthropic work together.
