 Dawson College - Creative Arts, Literature & Language Chinese: Chinese I In this course, students with no knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin) will learn the Pinyin phonetic system, functional approach, situational dialogues, read and write Chinese characters at a basic level through a variety of class activities, as well as by using up-to-date multimedia. Students will be introduced to the Chinese culture through artistic and literary themes. The course is supplemented with additional learning activities in the language lab. Chinese II This course is a continuation of Chinese (Mandarin) I. Emphasis will be placed on conversation, comprehension, reading and writing. This course will also help students develop a greater appreciation for the various aspects of Chinese life and culture through artistic and literary themes. The use of up-to-date multimedia, computer software programs, videotapes and text-related audiocassettes will enhance the learning of the language.
