 Rockville Cantonese School This semester begins the 26th school year since the inception of the Rockville Cantonese School (RCS). In 1984, the school, a non-profit organization, was established by several teachers and parents who wanted to provide Chinese culture and education to the students in the Washington metropolitan area. Over the years, the enrollments have gradually increased from thirty-some students in 1984 to 220 students at the beginning of the 2002 fall semester. In 2004, RCS reached a record high enrollment of 235 students. Classes in RCS include pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade. Since its inception, RSC has become the most reputable Cantonese school in the Capital area. In May of 2009, the school will celebrate its 25th years Teachers Appreciation Party and the fifth graduation ceremony at New Forturne Restaurant in Maryland. RCS reached an important milestone when it held its 20 Years Anniversary Celebration in May 2004. The' school appreciated Arthur So, M.D., and his wife Susanna, for a painted congratulation verse from Hong Kong. To encourage students to further their studies in the Chinese language, RCS established a scholarship program. The strength of RCS is in its people. We need the participation of everyone to enable the school to grow and excel. In recognition of RCS's accomplishment, Mr. Shing Wah Wong, Secretary of Education, Hong Kong Department of Education, transmitted a congratulatory verse. In addition, Mr. Alan Cheung, former Member of the Board of Education, Montgomery County, presented RCS a complimentary letter during RCS's Tenth Anniversary celebration.
