 State University of New York College at Geneseo - Foreign Languages and Literatures 100-level courses 101 Elementary I (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish) Introduces the structure and sound of the target language. Develops the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Culture-based readings and collateral laboratory assignments. This course is designed for students who have never studied the language before. In general, students who have a one-year high school equivalency may repeat this course, but for no credit. 3 (3-0). French, German, and Spanish offered every fall; other languages are offered according to a regular rotation. 102 Elementary II (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish) A continuation of 101. Prerequisite: 101 or its equivalent. 3 (3-0) French and Spanish offered every semester, German offered every spring; other languages are offered according to a regular rotation. 200-level courses 201 Intermediate I (Arabic,Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish) Reviews the fundamentals of structure and continues to develop the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Oral and written exercises are included. Reading materials emphasize cultural and contemporary topics. Prerequisite: 102 or its equivalent. 3 (3-0) French and Spanish offered every semester, German offered every fall; other languages are offered according to a regular rotation. 202 Intermediate II (Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish) A continuation of 201.
