![]() Sydney Chinese School THE SCHOOL Sydney Chinese School is registered as a charitable, non-profit making organisation. The main objective is to provide for the teaching of Chinese language and culture to interested children of Chinese and other ethnic backgrounds. The School was first established in 1974. It has 650 students and 50 classes which are divided into 10 grades & 2 kindergarten classes in Mandarin and Cantonese respectively. These classes are held every Saturday of the regular school term. Textbooks are from China. Chinese is used as the medium of instruction. Simplified characters are used however; students are encouraged to learn the full characters. The Mandarin stream will use the Hanyu pingying and Cantonese stream will include Mandarin from Year 4. Our School Certificate class follows the curriculum set by the N.S.W. Department of Education. The school is one of the largest and oldest Chinese schools in N.S.W. It has over 50 qualified and experienced teachers supported by an active parent group through its Board of Directors.
