Course overview: This course is aimed at post beginners and covers basic Chinese language and culture. Students will develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Emphasis is particularly placed on learning the phonetic system, speaking Chinese and understanding grammatical structures.Start date: 3 August 2009 (Mondays 18.00 - 20.00 hrs)Venue: A04 Amenities BuildingCost: £50 for 10 weeksLearning outcomes:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:Communicate smoothly in everyday life with the help of gesturesGrasp 250 basic words and phrases concerning everyday lifeHave a reading vocabulary of about 150 frequently used charactersBegin to understand simple Chinese etiquette and customs.

 

BEGINNERS CHINESE (10 WEEK COURSE)Course overview: This module is designed for complete beginners of Chinese who want to learn both the language and culture.  This module aims to develop basic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing; with a emphasis on the phonetic system, speaking and grammatical structures, providing a platform for further studies.

Meet the demands of everyday communication in Chinese

BUSINESS CHINESE FOR BEGINNERS (10 WEEK COURSE)

Course overview: This course is aimed at complete beginners with existing or planned business links in China and covers business-related language and culture. Students will develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Emphasis is particularly placed on learning the phonetic system, speaking Chinese and understanding grammatical structures.Start date: 1 October 2009 (Thursdays 18.00 - 20.00 hrs)Venue: A04 Amenities  BuildingCost: £70 for 10 weeks and includes course textbookLearning outcomes:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:Carry out basic everyday and business-related conversationsGrasp 100 basic words and phrases used in everyday life and in a business contextHave a reading vocabulary of about 100 frequently used charactersUnderstand simple Chinese etiquette and customs.
