Changes in markets, government policy, social trends and technology require graduates ready to take up and develop management careers and to have an appropriate range and mix of knowledge and skills. The same is true whether you are considering a career as an entrepreneur, thinking about starting your own business, as a manager, or as an adviser or consultant. A Business Studies degree prepares you for such a future by reflecting the contemporary nature of business and management thinking and incorporating approaches to public and private sector decision taking. You have many options on this course. You will study a range of subjects relevant to the needs of managers in today's business world, which renders these topics relevant to your studies. If you want to combine academic study and real-life application of your knowledge and skills in the world of business, you can opt for a business placement, usually sometime in your second or third year. A business placement gives you an excellent opportunity to practise and develop your skills. If you choose this option you will receive support in identifying and gaining a suitable placement. If you want to develop more specialist knowledge you can take one of our specialist pathways. We currently have pathways in Chinese Studies, Economics, Finance, Law, Marketing, and Spanish Studies. Pathways may begin at Year 2 or Year 3, according to subject. Students who successfully complete Year one and do not proceed with further study will be eligible for the award of CertHE Business and Management.
