This course is designed for absolute beginners and assumes no prior knowledge of Chinese. The course has three key areas:
the ability to use Chinese for the purpose of understanding, expression and communication;
the ability to acquire the explicit knowledge of Chinese; and
the ability to develop cultural and intercultural awareness and understanding of Chinese community and society.
Students will acquire knowledge in using simple and complex forms of the language in a variety of communicative contexts. They will be helped to apply grammatical understanding to develop simple and more elaborate use of the language. In addition, students will be introduced to the language and culture of China.
