![]() University of Salford - School of Languages What we do
The School is responsible for all language teaching at the University of Salford.
This ranges from undergraduate programmes involving Arabic, Chinese French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese to our highly-respected MAs in Applied Linguistics, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Translation and Interpreting. Other languages taught within the School include Modern Greek, Japanese, Polish and Turkish. Translating and Interpreting
The School of Languages has a national and international reputation for translation and interpreting. Home to the Centre for Translation and Interpreting, it provides a stimulating learning environment to students interested in pursuing study and careers in these, and related, disciplines. The School is a member of PLUG (Professional Languages at Universities Group) and is recognised as a provider of interpreters and translators by the European Commission Interpreting Service (SCIC) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).
Our Masters in Translating, Interpreting and Translating, Chinese/English/Chinese Translating, Chinese/English/Chinese Translating with Interpreting, Arabic/English Translation and Arabic/English Translation with Interpreting are leading the field in the provision of professionally-focussed Masters programmes. They are distinct from other UK university programmes in that they combine a coherent academic curriculum with an applied vocational focus. Training involves a wide range of core and optional modules, including: Specialised Translation with Translation Technology, Lexicography and Terminology, Research Methods and Approaches, Translation Project Management, and Business and Conference Interpreting. In addition to the core provision, students on these programmes have the opportunity to attend seminars with invited speakers who are practising translators and interpreters. The School was instrumental in the development of the graduate placement scheme (launched November 2008) which provides a comprehensive framework for work-based placements which many Masters students take advantage of during their studies at Salford. Advice on careers and business practice is integral to the programme provision and these programmes offer excellent employment prospects. +44 (0)161 295 4545 Maxwell Building Salford, Greater Manchester, M5 4WT United Kingdom Fax Fax: +44 (0) 161 295 4646 Phone Phone: +44 (0)161 295 4545 Tuition charges Tuition fees: Please check website for details.
