Minor in Chinese Studies
As part of its commitment to providing rigorous academic training in step with changing global trends, the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is happy to announce the expansion of the University of South Carolina’s Chinese program. This is an exciting time to study Chinese at USC, with the recent hiring of three new faculty members who specialize in Chinese literature and culture, as well as a new professor in the Anthropology Department who studies Taiwan. The first step in building the program is the creation of a much anticipated Chinese minor. The minor in Chinese is designed to give students in any department the opportunity to complement their major course of study with a strong foundation in Chinese language and culture. In order to give students both the language skills they will need on the job market and a practical knowledge of Chinese culture that is essential to round out those skills, the minor requires students to complete three years of Chinese and three additional culture or language courses.
Minor Requirements:
Students will take 18 credit hours, at and above the 200 level.
Chinese Language requirements:
Students will complete Chinese language through CHIN 322. CHIN 222, CHIN 321, and CHIN 322 will be counted for credit towards the minor.
